Hayes works with the San Diego Minutemen and Tea Party groups, led by Gary Gonsalves (Stop Taxing US), Jeff Schwilk (San Diego Minutemen), Barbara Coe (California Coalition for Immigration Reform) and Chelene Nightingale (Candidate for Governor of the American Independent Party in the 2010 election). He has been funded by conservative groups such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
It is reported in this clip that he protested with anarchists, communists, progressives and union members outside the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in the Staple Center in 2000.
